Dana Kothrade, CEO
Dana has been an entrepreneur and science enthusiast since a very young age. He started his first business at the age of 14. After moving to the San Diego area in 1987, Dana went to work as a carpet cleaner. He discovered a passion for the detailed work ethic and customer service skills required to become successful in the cleaning business. Dana decided to start his own company and has developed a successful service business that has provided top quality work for his San Diego County commercial and residential clients for over 12 years.
Dana immediately recognized the overwhelming demand for stone and tile restoration services. When he sought out professional training, he discovered that it was inadequate to say the least. Dana decided to conduct research and has compiled the most comprehensive personal database containing the appropriate use of chemicals, tools, processes and products needed for high quality restoration and maintenance services.
Dana took those elements of research and combined them with his years of on the job learning, attended countless training events, trial and error, thousands of hours of testing. All of this hard work combined has led to the successful development of an innovative, state of the art restoration processes for each specific type of stone and hard surface. While perfecting his processes he discovered a few gaps in what was truly needed by service professionals out in the field, and what was available to purchase. So, Dana created a custom line of chemical formulas and equipment to bridge those gaps. The first gap is the need for extensive hand detailed work which therefore can result in high labor costs. The second major gap in the industry is attaining high quality products to serve a variety of needs. By designing and creating each formula and piece of equipment to alleviate those two major challenges Dana has increased productivity, lowered labor costs, as well as enhanced the overall quality of the restoration services performed.
Dana found his true calling when he started training others how to perform high quality hard surface restoration. He loves to share his knowledge and truly loves helping others succeed and grow in this exploding industry. Dana and his team have developed the most comprehensive and complete hands-on technical training, coaching, and support program available in the industry today. His experience and real time solutions have successfully helped many restoration service providers across the country to complete difficult jobs that have resulted in huge profits for their companies. His level of passion and knowledge is unmatched in the industry today. To accommodate the needs of his clients, Dana has established product and equipment relationships with multiple vendors from the United States, Europe, and Asia. He holds multiple patents on stone restoration equipment, which he conceived, designed, tested and brought to market. Dana is a forward thinker, inventor, and business professional that is always on the cutting edge of technology and innovation.
He is happily married to his best friend Kim from High School and is the proud father of two beautiful girls, Breanna Marie 13 and Andrea Nicole 2.
Don Moore, Director of Business Development
Don Moore grew up in Escondido, California. Don and Dana met in High School in 1987 and worked at their first jobs together for the next two years until graduation. Don joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1991 post Gulf War and began an engineering career aboard various vessels and at the remote station at Iwo Jima, Japan.
In 1993 Don was transferred to the Marine Safety Office in San Diego where his career and life was changed drastically. At the Marine Safety Office, Don began working to protect the environment through government programs designed around the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989. Don gained invaluable experience working with the public at the time which would become important in later in his career.
In 2000 after completing his commitment with the U.S Coast Guard, Don worked at the City of San Diego as a Code Enforcement Officer in the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Department via the State of California. Don became very successful doing this work earning many accolades for his performance, but it was his part time work with Innovative Surface Solutions that interested him the most. While going to trade shows and assisting with training events he found great satisfaction being a part of a team whose sole purpose is to support business owners looking to create a better income for themselves, their employees and their families. In 2001 Don again worked for the U.S. Coast Guard, this time as a Sea Marshall in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Don was acquired by Lennar a large home builder in California in 2005 to be their Division Environmental Manager for the San Diego Division and as a matter of fate was laid off in 2007 due to the depressed home building market. Don started working with Dana Kothrade full time in his business completing sales and management for the office. Don has become a pivotal part of the success at Innovative Surface Solutions as the Director of Business Development by acquiring the contacts necessary to ensure the expansion of the Innovative Surface Solutions brand.
Don is the father of seven children, residing in Escondido California.
Don and Dana merged their efforts and created a hybrid education company that focuses on both the technical aspects of hard surface restoration and business profile consultation and coaching. They built this business based upon 5 Star Customer Service, genuine, honest relationships with partners, clients, and suppliers, as well as a true passion for this industry. Their combined enthusiasm for helping other business owners succeed is unsurpassed in any industry.
